Effects of Potentilla Discolor Bunge on Level of Interleukins (IL-4 , IL-5 , IL-6, IL-10) and TNF-t in Serum of UC Rats

Abstract：Objective To study the effect of Potentilla discolor Bunge on serum interleukins (IL) levels in ulcerative colitis(UC) rats,and to explore the molecular mechanism of Potentilla discolor Bunge in the treatment of UC.Methods The UC rats were induced by trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid-ethanol enema.The rats were divided into 6 groups:the control group,the model group,the sulfasalazine group,the low,middle and high Potentilla discolor dose groups.The levels of IL-4,IL-5,IL-6,IL-10 and TNF-α in serum were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results Compared with the control group,the expression of IL-4,IL-5,IL-6 and IL-10 in the model group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P ＜0.05).The expression of IL-4,IL-5,IL-6 and IL-10 was significantly increased (P ＜0.05) and the expression of TNF-α was significantly decreased (P ＜ 0.05) after treatment with Potentilla discolor Bunge.IL-4,IL-5,IL-6,IL-10 levels in serum showed a high degree of positive correlation among each other and a high degree of negative correlation with TNF-α levels.Conclusion Potentilla discolor Bunge can exert its effect on UC by regulating the level of immunoinflammatory cytokines in UC rats.
