Abstract:Objective Whether head up display (HUD) helps pilots to detect runway incursion and whether eye movement pattern of the pilot using HUD to detect the runway is different from the traditional primary flight display (PFD) are studied in this paper. Methods Experiments on pilots using HUD and PFD to detect runway incursion were designed and carried out.The gaze number, fixation duration, fixation trajectory map and pupil diameter data were collected and analyzed. Results The results showed that HUD and PFD that separately used to detect runway incursion:There was no significant impact on percent of fixation points and fixation duration in area of interest:pitch, heading, airspeed, altitude, roll and vertical descent velocity; The fixation trajectory of PFD was conductive to detecting runway incursions;Incursion significantly affected the pilot' s pupil diameter. Conclusion Compare to PFD,HUD is likely to lead to fatigue and more detrimental to detect runway incursion.
