Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of music relaxation on personnel's stress and emotion. Methods Fifteen subjects were recruited from the staffs who were involved in the SZ-11 manned spaceflight. The experiment was performed 2 times:the first one was in the mission and the other one was after the mission. All subjects' saliva cortisol sample and subjective questionnaire were obtained before and after the music relaxation experience, and heart rate variability(HRV) data were collected during the music relaxation experience. Results The heart rate (HR) was lower [(71.08 ±7.97) beats/min vs.(68.15 ±7.05) beats/min],root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD) was higher [(29.15 ± 13.27) ms vs.(36.86 ± 14.22)ms],the high frequency (HF) increased [(219.05 ± 180.39) ms2 vs.(329.01 ± 235.87) ms2],and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).Saliva cortisol level decreased [(6.50 ± 1.04) ng/mL vs.(6.01 ±0.65) ng/mL],the differences were nearly statistically significant (P =0.079).Conclusion Music relaxation can affect the function of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the autonomic nervous system, and it is of positive influence on stress and emotion of personnel who participate special work.
