Abstract:Objective To develop a new set of heuristics for the astronaut virtual training systems. Methods Based on the study of Nielsen and other researchers on usability heuristics, the domain-specific usability heuristics were proposed concerning the characteristics of astronaut virtual training systems. The proposed heuristics were compared with that of the Nielson's in the evaluation of a system to assess its effectiveness. Results The results showed that the domain-specific heuristics performed well in finding usability problems, thoroughness, validity and reliability.Meanwhile, the evaluators' ratings of the heuristics were significantly higher than the Nielson's.Conclusion The heuristics may be used for the evaluation of the astronaut virtual training systems in the early design stage.
