Quantitative Analysis of Population Spikes and Its Application in CNS Evoked Discharge Changes by Matrine
Abstract:Objective To develop a software system for auto-analysis of the population spikes (PS) and to study its use in the observation of Matrine-inhibitory effect on central neurons.Method Detection of PS wave and analysis of its feature parameters such as num, amplitude, area, latency of PS and slope of field excitatory post-synaptic potential (fEPSP) were carried out by a matlab program.Different doses of Matrine were administered to the excitatory model induced by penicillin sodium, and population signals were sampled by a Powerlab recorder and analyzed automatically by the software system.Result It was found that the software system processed the data much more quickly and conveniently than manual work, and the results were clear intuitional. The rate of correct detection reached 81.7%.Signal-analysis showed that 0.10 g/L Matrine inhibitted the excitability induced by penicillin distinctly;0.05 g/L Matrine also inhibitted but to a much less degree;Normal artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF) had no significant influence on all parameters of PS. Conclusion This auto-analyzing system can advance the analyzing efficiency obviously and has strong applicability.Matrine can inhibit the hyperactivity of hippocampal CA1 area induced by penicillin sodium.
