Clinical Characteristics and Etiological Analysis of 41 Children with Special Type of Esophageal Ulcer

Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and etiology of children with special type of esophageal ulcer.Methods The data of 41 children with special type of esophageal ulcer in Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from January 2015 to December 2023 were reviewed,and followed up for outcome.Results The male/female ratio of 41 children was 1.73∶1.The symptoms of the children included vomiting,abdominal pain,hematemesis,and antifeeding,multiple esophageal ulcer occurred frequency(28 cases,68.3%)and usually affected the middle-lower esophageal segment(17 cases,41.5%).The common pathological changes were chronic inflammation and elevated eosinophil count was relatively rare.The main cause of esophageal ulcer include Crohn's disease(7 cases,17.1%),eosinophilic esophagitis(4 cases,9.8%),and food allergies(4 cases,9.8%).The causes were unknown in 14 children,and 30 cases showed clinical improvement following symptomatic treatment.Conclusion Children with special type of esophageal ulcer had different onset age and various causes,the causes of the disease need to be comprehensively analyzed by clinical symptoms,pathology and other factors,immune abnormalities,infections,or genetic factors need to be considered in addition to Crohn's disease,food allergies,and other factors.
