Influencing Factors of Hospitalization Expenses in Elderly with Cardiometabolic Multimorbidities Based on Quantile Regression

Abstract：Objective To explore the hospitalization expenses and influencing factors of cardiometabolic multimorbidities in the elderly,and to provide reference for controlling the increase of hospitalization expenses and reducing the economic burden of diseases.Methods Using the retrospective research method,patients aged ≥ 65 years with cardiometabolic multimorbidities were selected from a grade A tertiary hospital in Henan Province as the study objects from January 1st to December 31st in 2023.Descriptive analysis,univariate analysis,and quantile regression were used to analyze the hospitalization expenses and influencing factors.Results A total of 29 994 elderly patients were included,averaging of 2.6 types of cardiometabolic diseases.The top three hospitalization expenses were medication costs(28.26％),consumables costs(26.05％),and diagnostic costs(24.94％).There was statistical different between the hospitalization expenses of different patients(P＜0.05).Length of stay,use of ventilator,transfer of ICU,operation,route of admission,transfer of department,source of patients,mode of leaving hospital,hospitalization frequency and gender were the influencing factors of hospitalization expenses(P＜0.05).The length of stay＞20 days was the most important factor to increase the hospitalization expenses,followed by using ventilator,entering to ICU and surgery.Conclusion The hospitalization expenses of elderly with cardiometabolic multimorbidities were higher.Government and medical department should control the influencing factors,focusing on excessively long hospitalization time,using ventilator,entering to ICU and surgery,and reduce the proportion of medical,consumable and diagnostic costs to reduce hospitalization expenses and utilize health resources effectively.
