Analysis on the Current Situation of Professional Identity of Undergraduate Stomatological Students in a University of Henan

Abstract:Objective To clarify the current situation and influencing factors of professional identity of undergraduate stomatological students,and provide a basis for improvement of medical students' professional identity.Methods Cluster sampling was used and 422 undergraduate stomatological students from a university in Henan province were investigated with questionnaires.Results The mean score of professional identity among undergraduate dental students was(3.60±0.95)points.There was a statistically significant difference in career expectations between male and female dental students(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in professional emotion,commitment,behavior,expectations,and values among dental students of different grades(P<0.05).Only-child dental students scored higher in professional values than non-only-child students(P<0.05).Dental students who chose dentistry as their first preference in the college entrance examination scored higher in all dimensions of professional identity than those with other choices(P<0.05).Conclusion The professional identity level of stomatological students was at an average level,which is the result of interaction of various factors.We should strengthen vocational identity education to improve positive emotion for future careers of stomatological students,and build a professional identity for stomatological students that is coordinated with the current medical form.It has important practical significance for the development of stomatology.
