Abstract:Objective To explore the association between the body roundness index(BRI)and hypertension prevalence among middle-aged and elderly individuals in China, and to analyze the dose-response relationship between them, and assess the potential value of BRI as a predictor for hypertension risk. Methods Using baseline data from the China health and retirement longitudinal study(CHARLS)2011,a total of 9 296 participants ≥45 years were included.Participants were divided into four groups based on BRI quartiles, and logistic regression models were applied to analyze the association between BRI and hypertension prevalence.Restricted cubic spline analysis was used to evaluate the non-linear dose-response relationship between BRI and hypertension. Results The results showed a significant positive association between BRI and hypertension risk.In the unadjusted model, each unit increased in BRI was associated with a 42%higher risk of hypertension(OR=1.42,95%CI:1.38-1.47,P<0.001),while the fully adjusted model showed a 22%increased risk(OR=1.22,95%CI:1.17-1.26,P<0.001).BRI quartile analysis indicated that participants in the highest BRI quartile(Q4)had a 2.26-fold higher risk of hypertension compared to those in the lowest quartile(Q1)(OR=2.26,95%CI:1.91-2.66,P<0.001).Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a significant non-linear dose-response relationship, with hypertension risk sharply increasing when BRI exceeded 4.02.Conclusion BRI is closely associated with hypertension risk, exhibiting a significant non-linear dose-response relationship.Higher BRI values, particularly those exceeding 4.02,are associated with a markedly increased risk of hypertension. Thus,BRI may serve as an effective tool for assessing hypertension risk in middle-aged and elderly populations, contributing to early screening and intervention efforts.
