Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between the expression of Th1/Th2 cytokines in peripheral blood and the recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing synchronous radiochemotherapy. Methods Data of 43 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who received simultaneous chemoradiotherapy from December 2017 to December 2021 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University were retrospectively collected and divided into recurrence group(8 cases)and non-recurrence group(35 cases)according to their recurrence within 2 years after treatment. All patients underwent peripheral blood Th1 and Th2 cytokine levels testing before treatment,to analyze the relationship between peripheral blood Th1/Th2 cytokine levels and recurrence in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing concurrent radiochemotherapy. Results The recurrent group exhibited higher levels of Th2 cytokines in peripheral blood and more aggressive skull base bone invasion compared to the non-recurrent group, while showing lower levels of Th1 and Th1/Th2 cytokines(P<0.05).Through pairwise correlation analysis, the recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy showed a negative correlation with peripheral Th1 and Th1/Th2 cytokine levels(P<0.05),while a positive correlation with invasive skull base bone invasion and peripheral Th2 cytokine levels(P<0.05).The results of drawing receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of peripheral blood Th1/Th2 cytokine detection for evaluating recurrence in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing synchronous radiochemotherapy was 0.979,which has certain predictive value. Conclusion The expression of Th1/Th2 cytokines in peripheral blood is closely related to the recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing synchronous radiochemotherapy, and has certain predictive value.
