Effect of Phacoemulsification Combined with rhEGF Eye Drops on Tear Film Stability and Adverse Reaction Rate After Cataract Surgery

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of phacoemulsification combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor(rhEGF)eye drops on tear film stability and adverse reaction rate in patients after cataract surgery.Methods Retrospective collection of clinical data from 90 cataract patients treated in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University from April 2021 to March 2023.Based on treatment methods,they were divided into a control group(41 cases)and a treatment group(49 cases).The former underwent phacoemulsification cataract extraction,and postoperative antibiotic glucocorticoids,non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,and mydriatic eye drops were given.The latter was given rhEGF eye drops on top of the same drug treatment.Postoperative tear film stability,oxidative stress indices[interleukin-1β(IL-1β),lipid peroxide(LPO),interleukin-8(IL-8)],ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scores,and postoperative adverse reaction status were compared between the two groups.Results One month after surgery,compared with the control group,the treatment group exhibited a longer tear film breakup time,increased tear secretion,thicker tear film,lower corneal fluorescein staining scores,and lower levels of serum IL-1 β,LPO,and IL-8(P＜0.05).At 1,3,and 6 months post-surgery,the quality of life scores in the treatment group were higher compared to the control group(P＜0.05).When comparing different time points,there was a continuous downward trend in the quality of life scores for both groups at 1,3,and 6 months post-surgery,and the between-group,time,and interaction effects were statistically significant(P＜0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups after surgery(P＞0.05).Conclusion Phacoemulsification cataract extraction combined with rhEGF eye drops treatment can promote tear secretion,improve tear film stability,reduce oxidative stress,improve postoperative quality of life,and have good safety.
