Abstract:Objective To explore the subject object interdependence relationship between binary coping strategies and fear of disease progression in middle-aged and young stroke patients and their spouses. Methods Middle-aged and young stroke patients and their spouses who were hospitalized in the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University from March to December 2023 were conveniently selected as the research subjects.A survey was conducted on 206 middle-aged and young stroke patients and their spouses using a general information questionnaire, dyadic coping inventory, simplified scale for fear of disease progression and spouse fear of disease progression scale. Results The dyadic coping inventory scores of middle-aged and young stroke patients and their spouses were(123.13±16.13)points and(126.69±19.57)points,respectively.The fear of disease progression scores were(38.96±7.39)points and(29.75±8.18)points,respectively.The binary coping strategies of stroke patients and their spouses negatively predict their own level of fear of disease progression(β=-0.36,-0.70,P<0.05),indicating significant main effect. The binary coping strategies of patients and spouses also negatively predict each other's level of fear of disease progression(β=-0.12,-0.44,P<0.05),indicating significant object effects. Conclusion The level of fear of disease progression in middle-aged and young stroke patients and their spouses is influenced by the interaction between their own and the other's binary coping strategies. This suggests that in clinical interventions, the important role of spouses should be emphasized, and a intervention plan centered on mutual support and joint coping should be developed by considering the patient and spouse as a whole.
