Investigation of the Current Situation and Risk Factors of Dental Caries in Preschool Children in Jinshui District,Zhengzhou

Abstract：Objective To investigate the prevalence of dental caries among preschool children in Jinshui District,Zhengzhou,and analyze the related risk factors to provide scientific guidance for the prevention of dental caries in this age group.Methods Based on the preschool health check-ups conducted by community health service centers in Jinshui District,Zhengzhou,in 2023,data such as age,gender,hemoglobin levels,height,and weight of preschool children aged 3 to 6 years will be collected.Univariate and multivariate analyses will be used to analyze the risk factors for dental caries.Results In this study,a total of 2 762 preschool children were surveyed,among whom 1 280 cases of dental caries were detected,resulting in a caries prevalence of 46.3％.The caries rates for different age groups(3-6 years old)were 26.2％,41.1％,49.5％,and 60.5％,respectively,showing a statistically significant increase with age(x2=169.256,P＜0.001).The caries prevalence was 54.0％for boys and 53.4％for girls,with no statistically significant difference(x2=0.104,P＞0.05).Among children with normal hemoglobin levels,the caries prevalence was 46.0％,compared to 80.0％among those with anemia,which was statistically significant(x2=13.817,P＜0.001).Children with low body mass index had a caries prevalence of 66.7％,while those with normal body mass index had 42.9％,and overweight or obese children had 60.2％,all showing statistically significant differences(x2=63.804,P＜0.001).Logistic regression analysis indicated that increasing age,anemia,and both low and high body mass index were risk factors for dental caries.Conclusion The high prevalence of dental caries among preschool children in Jinshui District,Zhengzhou City suggests a need for enhanced dental health education and regular oral health check-ups for children.
