Abstract:Objective To explore the occurrence characteristics of adverse events in children receiving mechanical ventilation in the pediatric intensive care unit. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 19 nursing adverse events of children receiving mechanical ventilation reported in the pediatric intensive care unit of a tertiary first-class children's specialized hospital from 2020 to 2023.The analysis covered the basic conditions of the children and relevant information about the responsible nurses. Results The severity of adverse events related to mechanical ventilation was generally high, mainly consisting of type Ⅱ events(events with consequences),and there was no statistically significant difference in the annual incidence rates(P>0.05).The main types of adverse events included in-hospital pressure injuries(accounting for 31.6%),unplanned extubation(accounting for 26.3%),and medication errors(accounting for 26.3%).The data showed that among children receiving mechanical ventilation, the incidence of adverse events in school-age children accounted for 42.10%.As for the responsible nurses, the incidence of adverse events in the children under the care of nurses with 5 to<10 years of working experience accounted for 68.75%.Conclusion Medical staff in the PICU should continuously pay close attention to the high-risk group of children receiving mechanical ventilation, strengthen their awareness and capabilities of safety management, implement refined management of nursing adverse events,so as to effectively improve the quality and safety level of nursing care.
