Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of Er∶YAG laser activated swing wash assisted root canal treatment on apical periapical inflammation in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus. Methods Forty-six patients with apical periapical inflammation accompanied by type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus were randomly selected as and randomly divided into a test group and a control group, with 23 cases in each group. The control group routinely underwent root canal preparation disinfection, while the test group routinely underwent root canal preparation disinfection+Er∶YAG laser assisted root canal disinfection.Localized pain 3 days after root canal preparation was assessed in both groups. The efficacy of the two groups was observed by the periapical clinical index, fractal dimension value and chronic periapical inflammation lesion grading 24 months after root canal treatment. Results The pain response of the test group was lighter than that of the control group 3 days after root canal preparation(P<0.05).The periapical clinical index, fractal dimension value and chronic apical periapical inflammation lesion grading of the two groups of patients changed significantly compared with that before treatment 2 years after root canal treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion Er∶YAG laser-assisted endodontic treatment of patients with chronic apical periapical inflammation accompanied by type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus can reduce the acute pain symptoms after root canal preparation and promote the healing of lesions in the apical region, with good clinical results.
