Predictive Value of Serum GDF15 and HIF-1α in Renal Function Damage in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract：Objective To explore the predictive value of serum growth differentiation factor 15(GDF15)and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α(HIF-1 α)in renal function damage in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 188 patients with T2DM confirmed in Shangqiu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were enrolled as the research objects between January 2021 and January 2023.According to presence or absence of diabetic nephropathy(DN),they were divided into simple T2DM group(121 cases)and DN group(67 cases).The level of blood urea nitrogen(BUN)was detected by urease electrode method,level of serum creatinine(sCr)was detected by picric acid method,level of serum albuminuria(Alb)was detected by bromocresol green method,and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)was calculated by the formula.The levels of serum GDF15 and HIF-1α were detected by ELISA.The correlation between serum GDF15,HIF-1α and renal function indexes was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis.The predictive value of serum GDF15 and HIF-1α for renal function damage was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curves.Results The course of disease in DN group was longer than that in simple T2DM group(P＜0.05).The levels of Alb and eGFR in DN group were lower than those in simple T2DM group,while sCr and BUN levels were higher than those in simple T2DM group(P＜0.05).The levels of serum GDF15 and HIF-1αin DN group were higher than those in simple T2DM group(P＜0.05).GDF15 and HIF-1α were negatively correlated with Alb and eGFR levels,while positively correlated with BUN level(P＜0.05).HIF-1 α was positively correlated with sCr level(P＜0.05),but GDF15 was not significantly correlated with sCr level(P＞0.05).Receiver operating characteristic curves analysis showed that area under the curve and sensitivity of serum GDF15 combined with HIF-1α for predicting renal function damage were 0.841 and 85.07％,respectively.Conclusion Serum GDF15 combined with HIF-1α has certain predictive value for renal function damage in T2DM patients,with high sensitivity.
