A Qualitative Study on the Physical and Psychological Impact of Emergency Nurses in the Early Stage of the"Class B and B Control"of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Epidemic

Abstract：Objective To explore the physical and psychological impact of emergency nurses in the early stage"class B and B control"of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods From January 13 to 18,2023,the purpose sampling method was employed to select emergency nurses from a tertiary hospital in Zhengzhou as the research object.Based on the principle of information saturation,28 emergency nurses were finally selected for a series of semi-structured in-depth interviews.The interview materials were then analyzed by using Colaizzi's seven-step method.Results A total of 3 themes were extracted.In the early stage of"class B and B control"of the COVID-19 epidemic,the impact on the work of emergency nurses,mainly including increased workload,increased work intensity,extended working hours,and a sharp increase in work pressure.The physical influence mainly manifested as physical and mental exhaustion and COVID-19 positive infection.The psychological impact including tension,anxiety,self-blame,worry,fear,and restlessness caused by comprehensive effects of many factors.Conclusion The work of emergency nurses is obviously affected in the early stage of"class B and B control"of COVID-19,and the changes of working conditions are the main reason for the physical and psychological impact of emergency nurses.This study is of great significance for fully clarifying the impact of front-line emergency medical staff under the new situation of COVID-19 prevention and control,exploring targeted prevention and control measures,and guiding the effective response to new or resurgent infectious diseases in the future.
