Investigation and Analysis of Body Composition Indexes of Students in a University in Luoyang

Abstract:Objective The gradual decline in the physical health level of college students in China continues to cause social concern.This study aims to analyze the nutritional health status of college students by testing their body composition,so as to provide a reference basis for the development of college students' health education and the improvement of their health quality.Methods The class cluster sampling methods was used to select 252 first-and second-year students from a university in Luoyang City in October 2023,and the general information was collected,and the electrical bioimpedance measurement was used to measure and analyze the body composition of the university students.Results Among the 252 college students,17.06%were emaciated and 19.84%were overweight and obese according to the body mass index grading standard,64.68% were overweight and obese according to the percentage body fat grading standard.The detection rate of abdominal obesity and invisible obesity among college students were both 23.02%,and the rate of skeletal muscle substandard was 51.76%.The obesity(percentage body fat)and invisible obesity rates of female college students were higher than those of male college students(P<0.05),protein,skeletal muscle,and basal metabolism rates of sophomore students were higher than those of freshmen students,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The college students'body composition is unbalanced,overweight and obesity problems are more prominent,which should be targeted to strengthen the health management of contemporary students from the aspects of health education,diet and exercise to improve the body composition status and enhance the physical health.
