Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of inflatable mediastinoscopy for radical resection of esophageal cancer. Methods A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted on 92 esophageal cancer patients admitted to Nanyang Central Hospital from June 2019 to December 2022.The patients were randomly divided into two groups of 48 each. The control group received traditional thoracotomy treatment, while the observation group received inflatable mediastinoscopy for radical resection of esophageal cancer. The surgical indicators of two groups(surgical time, intraoperative bleeding, number of lymph node dissection, and hospital stay)were observed. The pain level of two groups of patients was evaluated using visual analog scale(VAS)at 12 and 24 hours after surgery. The occurrence of postoperative complications in two groups of patients was recorded and the total complication rates were compared. Results Both groups of esophageal cancer patients successfully completed the study without any withdrawal cases. The number of lymph node dissection in the observation group was more than that in the control group, there was a statistical difference between the groups(P<0.05).The observation group had fewer surgical time, intraoperative bleeding, and hospital stay than the control group(P<0.05).At 12 hours and 24 hours after surgery, the VAS score of observation group was lower than control group, there was a statistical difference between the groups(P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Inflatable mediastinoscopy for radical resection of esophageal cancer is more effective than traditional thoracotomy in the treatment of esophageal cancer.Patients have shorter surgical time, reduced intraoperative blood loss, mild postoperative pain, fewer complications, better and faster recovery of physical function, and significantly shorter hospital stay.
