Problems and Needs of Home-Based Hospice Care for Terminal Cancer Patients and Its Influencing Factors

Abstract:Objective To investigate the problems and needs of home-based hospice care for terminal cancer patients,and explore its influencing factors.Methods Using convenience sampling method,a cross-sectional survey was conducted on 377 pre-discharged end-stage cancer patients who were willing to receive home hospice care at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from August 2022 to January 2023.The survey included a general information questionnaire,a Chinese version of the hospice care questions and needs questionnaire,a chronic disease health nutrition scale,a social support assessment scale,and a personal sense of control scale.Results For the terminal cancer patients,the score of home-based hospice care problems was(41.46±8.49),and the score of demands was(42.68±8.34).According to the multivariate linear regression analysis,for the terminal cancer patients,age,education level,per capita monthly household income,co-morbidity of other diseases,health literacy,social support,and personal mastery were factors influencing in problems and needs of home-based hospice care(P<0.05).Conclusion The issues and needs of home palliative care for end-stage cancer patients are diverse.Medical workers should combine the individual situation and actual needs of patients to construct home palliative care intervention plans,and try to solve the patients' home palliative care problems as much as possible to meet their home palliative care needs.
