Abstract:Objective To analyze epidemiological burden of refractive error and age-period-cohort effects in China based on the Global Burden of Disease(GBD)database 2021,provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control for refractive error. Methods The number of patients, prevalence rate, and disability adjusted life years(DALYs)rate from the GBD(2021)database were downloaded. The disease burden and trends of refractive errors in China were analyzed useing the Joinpoint regression model software. An age period cohort(APC)analysis model was constructed to analyze the risks of refractive error in China. Results From 1990 to 2021,the number of patients with refractive errors and DALYs in China showed an increasing trend with females being higher than males. The age standardized prevalence rate(ASPR)and DALYs rate showed an overall fluctuating downward trend. The risk of refractive errors in China increases with age,but the increasing rate of risk in the older age group showed a decreasing trend, while the lower age group showed a increasing trend. Conclusion From 1990 to 2021,the burden of refractive errors in China increased and the risk of disease is correlated with age, period, and birth cohort.
