Abstract:Objective To examine the parallel mediating role of positive and negative self-compassion on the relationship between attachment styles and disease acceptance among maintenance hemodialysis(MHD)patients. Methods Totally 301 patients with MHD were enrolled through convenience sampling to complete acceptance of illness scale,Experiences in close relationships scale-modified short form,self-compassion scale.Structural equation modeling was conducted to examine the parallel mediation model. Results The parallel mediation model revealed that negative self-compassion completely mediated the relationship between attachment styles and disease acceptance.Attachment security demonstrated a positive indirect effect on disease acceptance through negative self-compassion,but not through positive self-compassion.Attachment anxiety and aviodance both reported an adverse indirect effect on disease acceptance through negative self-compassion,but not through positive self-compassion either. Conclusion Attachment anxiety and aviodance may limit adaptive capacities through negative self-compassion.It is meaningful to prepare tailored negative self-compassion interventions that can be adjusted for patient with insecure attachment style.
