Abstract:Objective To investigate the current status of eye drop adherence in elderly ophthalmic patients and analyze its influencing factors, providing a theoretical basis for improving medication compliance. Methods A total of 309 elderly patients hospitalized in the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology from January to June 2023 were selected.A self-designed questionnaire based on the Morisky medication adherence scale was used for data collection.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to identify the influencing factors of eye drop adherence. Results Among the 309 elderly patients,201 cases(65.05%)showed suboptimal adherence to eye drop use, while 108 cases(34.95%)demonstrated good adherence.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, monthly personal income, eye drop administration during hospitalization, types of eye drops used, daily frequency of eye drop application, awareness of disease and medication knowledge, and whether healthcare providers provided instructions on eye drop usage(with patient comprehension)were significant influencing factors of adherence(P<0.05).Conclusion Elderly ophthalmic patients exhibit poor adherence to eye drop use.Ophthalmology healthcare professionals should implement targeted interventions addressing these influencing factors to improve adherence in this population.
