Translation and Reliability and Validity of the Chinese Version of the Psychometric Properties of Fertility Desire Scale

Abstract：Objective To translate the psychometric properties of fertility desire scale(FDS)into Chinese,and assess its reliability and validity in Chinese married childbearing age population.Methods According to the Brislin model to translate and back-translate the original version,the Chinese version of the scale was determined after cultural adjustment and pretesting on the scale.According to the survey criteria,392 married people of child-bearing age in ZhengZhou were selected to evaluate the validity and reliability validity of the scale.Results There were 15 items in Chinese version of FDS,including 2 dimensions and 4 aspects.After exploratory factor analysis,4 common factors were extracted,explaining 58.903％of the total variance.The content validity index of FDS was 0.92,and the content validity index of each item was 0.83-1.00.The Cronbach's αcoefficient of FDS was 0.787,the Cronbach's α coefficients of each dimension were 0.805,0.762,and the split-half reliability was 0.768.Conclusion The Chinese version of FDS is reliable and valid,which can be used to evaluate the childbearing desire of married people of childbearing age in China.
