Abstract:Objective Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, while retinol is an essential nutrient required for maintaining normal body functions. This study aims to analyze the association between serum retinol levels and hypertension risk among adults, based on data from the national health and nutrition examination survey(NHANES).Methods A total of 14 246 participants were included in this cross-sectional study.Participants were grouped according to the quartiles of serum retinol levels, and their characteristics were compared across groups.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess the association between serum retinol levels and hypertension. Results The age of the participants was(47.34±20.31)years,and 51.21%were male.As serum retinol levels increased, the prevalence of hypertension gradually increased, showing a significant upward trend from the first quartile(Q1:25.97%)to the second quartile(Q2:32.21%),third quartile(Q3:39.55%),and fourth quartile(Q4:52.16%).Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that,in the fully adjusted model, compared to the lowest quartile of serum retinol, the highest quartile was associated with a significantly increased risk of hypertension(OR=1.97,95%CI:1.73-2.25,P<0.05).Conclusion Serum retinol concentration is positively correlated with the risk of hypertension.
