Abstract:Objective To analyze the relationship between video electroencephalogram(VEEG)monitoring and prognosis in children with epilepsy. Methods The data of 138 children with epilepsy admitted to Henan Children's Hospital from January 2018 to June 2020 were retrospectively collected. All children received VEEG monitoring and antiepileptic drug treatment, and had complete follow-up data records. The VEEG monitoring characteristics of children with epilepsy with different clinical characteristics were compared, and the clinical data of children with different prognosis and the detection of epileptiform discharges at each time point of treatment were compared. Results There was no statistical significant difference in the proportion of epileptiform discharge detected by VEEG in children with epilepsy of different characteristics(P>0.05).A total of 138 children with epilepsy received regular anti epileptic treatment.Within one year,73 cases had complete control of seizures, accounting for 52.90%,28 cases were effective, accounting for 20.29%,and 37 cases were uncontrolled, accounting for 26.81%.There were statistical significant differences in the course of disease, medication use,and intelligence at admission between groups with different prognoses(P<0.05).There was no statistical significant difference in the detection rate of epileptiform discharge between the two groups after one month of treatment(P>0.05).The detection rate of epileptiform discharge in the good prognosis group after 3 and 6 months of treatment was lower than that in the poor prognosis group(P<0.05).Conclusion VEEG monitoring is beneficial for the accurate diagnosis and localization of epilepsy in children,as well as the identification of seizure types. Moreover,VEEG monitoring of epileptiform discharge may have a certain relationship with the prognosis of children.
