Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and MRI in different grades of meningiomas, and to study the clinical pathological and biological behaviors in the occurrence and progression of meningiomas of different grades, and to provide theoretical support for clinical diagnosis, treatment and evaluation. Methods A total of 38 patients with meningioma who underwent neurosurgery and were pathologically confirmed in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University and Zhengzhou Central Hospital from May 2009 to September 2022 were selected.Using the German SIEMENS superconducting 3.0 T system,38 patients with meningioma underwent MRI plain scan and dynamic enhanced scan.Western-blot,immunohistochemistry,and RT-PCR were used to analyze the expression of VEGF in meningioma tissue samples of different grades. Results The results of Western-blot,immunohistochemistry,and RT-PCR demonstrated that VEGF expression exhibited statistically significant differences across various grades of meningiomas(P<0.05).The expression levels of grade Ⅲ meningioma were highest, the expression in grade Ⅰ meningioma was lower than that in grade Ⅱ,while gradeⅡ showed lower expression than grade Ⅲ(P<0.05).However,there was no statistically significant difference in expression between the normal control group and grade Ⅰ meningioma(P>0.05).VEGF expression was positively correlated with MRI signal enhancement,T2 weighted imaging(T2WI),T,weighted imaging(T1WI)signal intensity and peritumoral brain edema(PTBE)(P<0.05),but was not related to the extent of tumor invasion and dural tail sign(P>0.05).Conclusion The expression level of VEGF exhibited a positive correlation with the grade of meningioma, reaching its peak in the grade Ⅲmeningioma group. The VEGF expression in meningioma is related to the T1WI signal intensity,T2WI signal intensity,PTBE,and enhancement degree, respectively, and is not related to the range of tumor invasion and dural tail sign. The expression level of VEGF in grade Ⅲ meningiomas was found to be the highest, and there is a direct correlation between VEGF expression and the grade of meningioma. The high level of VEGF expression can synergistic effect on tumor invasion and proliferation, and make the formation of PTBE easier.
