Psychological Experiences of Patients with Bone Neoplasms Participating in Group Painting Art Therapy:A Qualitative Study

Abstract:Objective To explore the psychological experiences of patients with bone neoplasms participating in group painting art therapy.Methods The purposive sampling method was used to recruit patients with bone neoplasms who were admitted to the department of bone and soft tissue oncology in a tertiary hospital in Zhengzhou from August 2021 to May 2023.Semi-structured interviews were conducted to get the specific psychological experiences of participating in group painting art therapy of participants.The thematic analysis method was used to analyze the data.Results Through the steps of listening,analyzing,summarizing,and refining,three main themes of the psychological experience of patients with bone neoplasms participating in group painting art therapy were summarized:reconciliation with the disease,psychological adjustment,and hope reconstruction.Conclusion The psychological experience of patients with bone neoplasms participating in group painting art therapy is complex and positive,which can promote the mental health of patients and should be further standardized in clinical practice.
