Abstract:Objective To explore the value of video electroencephalogram (VEGG) in the research of influence of bilirubin encephalopathy (BE) on voiding pattern of term newborns. Methods Fifty-four newborns with hyperbilirubinemia aged 4 to 15 days were included in this study, and they were divided into BE group and non bilirubin encephalopathy (NBE) group, 28 cases in each group.Twelve babies had normal bilirubin (NB) were selected as control group (NB group). The voided volume (VV), post void residual volume(PVR), voiding frequency (VF) and VEEG were recorded for 4 hours from 8AM to 12AM.Results The VF and PVR of BE group were higher than NBE group and NB group (P<0.05).The VV of BE group was lower than NBE group and NB group (P<0.05).The Fp2-C4 lead amplitude of BE group was lower than NBE group and NB group (P<0.05).There was no difference in all the parameters between NBE group and NB group. Conclusion BE may affect voiding pattern of term newborns through the cerebral cortex.VEGG has a potential value in the research of influence of BE on voiding pattern of term newborns.
