Abstract:Objective To analyze and compare the clinical effects of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab for patients with macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO-ME) in different ages. Methods Thirty eyes of 30 cases of CRVO-ME were treated with intravitreal injeciton of ranibizumab (0.05 ml).According to the age of onset, patients were divided into two groups.Group A aged less than or equal to 50 years (15 cases), and group B aged more than 50 years(15 case). The follow-up time was 12 months. The changes of best corrected visual acuity(LogMAR,BCVA), central macular thickness(CMT), and intraoeular pressure(IOP) before the treatment and at 14 days, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the treatment were observed. Results The BCVA of each group at each time point after the treatment was obviously improved. The difference between before and after treatment were statistically significant(P<0.05).But the difference between group A and B was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The CMT of each group at each time point after the treatment was obviously improved, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).But the difference between group A and B was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Mean time of injection in group A was (3.63±1.18), and that in B group was (2.33±0.57).The differences between group A and B was statistically significant (P<0.05).The mean first treating intervals (the time between first and second time) of group A was (1.73±0.78) months, and that of group B was (4.45±2.06) months. The difference between A and B group was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Intravitreal injection of ranibizumab for CRVO-ME can improve visual acuity and reduce macular edema in both the old and the younger adults. However, the younger adults need more injections and shorter first treating intervals.
