Abstract:Objective To study the efficacy and safety of the THAG regimen which consisted of the low -dose pirarubicin, homoharringtonine, cytosine arabinoside and recombinant human granulocyte colony -stimulating factor for the elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).Methods As induction and consolidation therapy, the THAG chemotherapy regimen was adopted in the initial treatment of 22 elderly patients with AML.In a timely manner to prevent and control infection, timely com-position blood transfusion, symptomatic and supportive treatment were conducted. Results The efficacy was evaluated after two courses of chemotherapy. The results showed that 1 7 patients achieved complete remission,3 patients achieved partial remission and the therapy caused an insignificant change in 2 patients. The total effective rate was 90.91 %.There were different degrees of bone marrow suppression in all 22 cases,1 6 cases of neutrophils lack,20 cases of platelets less than 20 ×1 09 /L,1 0 cases of mild abnormal liver function. The treatment process was not affected. No malignant cardiac toxicity was found. In 20 effective ca-ses,there were 8 cases of recurrence within 1 year,8 cases of survival state,2 cases of life time more than 5 years,3 cases of drug withdrawal but still in CR,3 cases still in maintenance therapy with multiple drugs alternately. Conclusion The THAG chemotherapy regimen has a high remission rate with light side effects and good tolerance in the treatment of AML for elderly pa-tients.Therefore,it is a highly effective and safe treatment option.
