Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of age on the efficacy of anterior corpus callosotomy in patients with intracta-ble epilepsy. Methods 52 patients with intractable epilepsy undergoing anterior corpus callosotomy from June of 201 3 to April of 201 4 were selected and divided into juvenile group(less than 1 8 years old,24 cases)and adult group (above 1 8 years old,28 cases). All patients were followed up for 1 year and the efficacies were compared. Results The total effective rates of juvenile group and adult group were 87.5% and 71 .4%.The total effective rates of adult group was higher than juvenile group, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Conclusion Age plays an important role in efficacy of anterior corpus calloso-tomy in patients with intractable epilepsy.Intractable epilepsy patients can benefits more from anterior corpus callosotomy done at an early age.
