Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of early use of octreotide in cirrhotic patients undergoing splenectomy and de-vascularization.Methods The clinical data of 65 cirrhosis patients with portal hypertension undergoing splenectomy and devas-cularization were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were divided into observation group (n =29)and control group (n =36)according to whether or not using octreotide after operation.Hemoglobin(Hb),ascites, urine volume on postoperative day (POD)1 ,3,5 and 7 were compared between observation group and control group. Results Compared with control group, the levels of hemoglobin and urine volume on POD 1 ,3,5,7 were significantly increased (P <0.05),and ascites was significantly lower (P <0.05)in observation group. Conclusion The early use of octreotide after splenectomy and devascularization in cir-rhotic patients with portal hypertension can reduce portal vein pressure and the volume of postoperative ascites, also prevent bleed-ing of surgical field.
