Efficacy of balloon kyphoplasty with calcium phosphate cement augmentation in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures

Abstract：Objective To discuss the efficacy of balloon kyphoplasty with calcium phosphate cement augmentation in the treat-ment of osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures.Methods From June 2012 to August 2014,32 patients with osteoporosis ver-tebral compressive fracture were treated with balloon kyphoplasty with calcium phosphate cement augmentation.Results All opera-tions were successful.There was no serious operative complications.The VAS scores were reduced from 8.0 to 2.7.The height of injured vertebrae was recovered from 1.2 cm to 2.3 cm.Pain relief and activity improvement were remarkable.Conclusion In the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures,balloon kyphoplasty with calcium phosphate cement augmentation could a-chieve immediate pain relief,restore the height of fractured vertebra,improve the deformity.It is a safe and effective method.
