Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of hypothyroidism on bone mineral density and bone metabolism - related indi-cators. Methods 60 patients with hypothyroidism(the hypothyroidism group)and 60 cases of healthy volunteers(the control group)were enrolled. The thyroid function indicators(TSH,FT3 ,FT4 ),bone metabolic markers(ALP,Ca2 + ,P3 + ,1,25 -(OH)2 D3 ,BGP,ICTP,PTH)and bone mineral density of right side of the femoral neck and lumbar spine were observed. Re-sults The prevalence rate of osteoporosis in hypothyroidism group was significantly higher than the control group. The serum TSH level in hypothyroidism group was higher than the control group(P < 0. 05),whereas serum FT3 ,FT4 ,ALP,BGP,ICTP levels were significantly lower than the control group(P < 0. 05). The serum TSH had a negative correlation with ALP,BGP,IC-TP,BMD in hypothyroidism group. FT3 had a positive correlation with BGP,ICTP,BMD. FT3 was highly positive correlated with ALP. FT4 had a positive medium correlation with ALP,ICTP,BMD. FT4 was lowly positive correlated with BGP. Conclusion Hypothyroidism can cause bone loss and reduce the bone mineral density. Thyroid function is an important factor on affecting bone metabolism. The bone mineral density and bone metabolism of hypothyroidism patients were affected by serum TSH,FT3 ,FT4 .
