Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical effect of spironolactone on patients with persistent atrial fibrillation(AF)after radiofrequency ablation. Methods 80 patients with persistent atrial fibrillation undergoing catheter ablation from March of 2010 to December of 2012 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were randomized into the spironolactone group and the control group. The control group(40 cases)was given conventional treatment, and the experimental group(40 cases)was treated with spironolactone besides conventional treatment.Holter、echocardiography and the recurrence of AF were detected in 3、6、9、12 months after the ablation in both groups. Results After a median follow -up of 12 months, there were 13 cases of AF recurrence in spironolactone group and 16 in control group, and the difference was not statistically significant(P >0.05).There was a significant reduce in left atrial volume in both two groups, and the reduce in spironolactone group was more obvious(P <0.05).Conclusion Spironolactone can delay the atrial structural remodeling and fibrosis by reducing the the left atrial volume after radiofrequency ablation. It had a tendency to reduce the recurrence of AF after a long -time application.
