The clinical efficacy of early mechanical ventilation in the treatment of elderly patients with acute severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning accompanied by respiratory failure

Abstract：Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of early mechanical ventilation in the treatment of elderly pa-tients with acute severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning accompanied by respiratory failure.Methods 46 elderly pa-tients with acute severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning accompanied by respiratory failure were randomly divided into two groups,23 cases in each group.The control group was treated with conventional symptomatic treatment,and the obser-vation group was treated with early mechanical ventilation in addition.Results All patients survived after emergency,but the rates of poisoning rebound and weakness syndrome in observation group were significantly lower than control group,the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05 ).The serum IL -6 and IL -1 0 values in the two groups were significantly lower than before treatment(P <0.05 ),while the values in treatment group were significantly lower than control group(P <0.05 ).Conclusion Early mechanical ventilation could effectively improve the prognosis in the treatment of elderly pa-tients with acute severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning accompanied by respiratory failure,and the mechanism may be decreasing the expression of inflammatory cytokines.
