Clinical efficacy of paclitaxel combined with S -1 in the treatment of advanced esophageal cancer

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of paclitaxel combined with S -1 in the treatment of advanced esophage-al cancer.Methods Fifty -one patients with advanced esophageal cancer were randomly divided into observation group (n =27) and control group (n =24).The observation group was treated with paclitaxel combined with S -1:paclitaxel 135 ~175 mg/m2 by intravenous infusion for 3 h on the first day;S -1(<1.25 m2 ,40 mg;1.25 ~1.50 m2 ,50 mg;>1.5 m2 ,60 mg)twice by oral medication for 14 days.The control group was treated with leucovorin combined with fluorouracil:leucovorin 200 mg/m2;fluoroura-cil 600 mg/m2 by intravenous infusion for days 1 ~5;cisplatin 75 mg/m2 by intravenous infusion for days 1 ~3.Chemotherapy was repeated every 21 days.The clinical efficacy was evaluated every 2 cycles.Clinical efficacy,adverse reactions were observed and compared between two groups.Results There were no statistical differences between observation group and control group on ef-fective rate,disease control rate and the median progression -free survival.The incidences of nausea and vomiting,diarrhea and oral mucositis in the control group were significantly higher than observation group (P <0.05).The incidence of hair loss in the observation group was significantly higher than control group (P <0.05).Conclusion The treatment of Paclitaxel combined with S -1 was effective for advanced esophageal cancer and the toxicities could be tolerated.Paclitaxel combined with S -1 may become a choice for advanced esophagus cancer instead of cisplatin combined with fluorouracil.
