Analysis of cancer incidence and mortality in Henan province,2011

Abstract：Objective To analyze the cancer incidence and mortality of Henan province in 2011.Methods On basis of the criteria of data quality from the National Central Cancer Registry (NCCR),the data from 16 cancer registrations were checked and evaluated in 2011.The incidence,mortality,cumulative rate (0 ~74 years old),10 most common cancers and proportion were calculated and stratified by area (urban/rural),gender,age.Chinese population census in 2000 and Segi’s population were used for age -standardized incidence /mortality rates.Results There were 34 208 cases of new diagnosed cancer and 22 185 death cases registered in Henan province in 2011.The crude incidence was 246.12 /105 (262.09 /105 in male,229.13 /105 in female),age -standardized incidence by Chinese standard population (ASR China)and by world standard population (ASR word)were 206.82 /105 and 205.51 /105 with the cumulative incidence rate (0 ~74 years old)of 24.15%.The cancer incidence and ASR China were 237.31 /105 and 193.03 /105 in urban areas,whereas in rural areas,they were 247.78 /105 and 209.90 /105 respectively.The crude mortality was 159.62 /105 (188.93 /105 in male,128.43 /105 in female),age -standardized mortality by Chinese standard population (ASR China)and by world standard population (ASR word)were 129.76 /105 and 129.95 /105 with the cumulative mortality rate (0 ~74 years old)of 15.34%.The cancer mortality and ASR China were 143.35 /105 and 113.76 /105 in urban areas,whereas in rural areas,they were 162.68 /105 and 133.03 /105 respectively.Lung cancer,esophageal cancer,female breast cancer,gastric cancer,liver cancer,colorectal cancer,cervical cancer,uterus cancer, brain cancer and ovarian cancer were the most common cancer in Henan,accounting for about 83.88% of all cancer new cases. Lung cancer,esophageal cancer,gastric cancer,liver cancer,female breast cancer,colorectal cancer,cervical cancer,brain cancer,uterus cancer and ovarian cancer were the leading causes of cancer deaths,accounting for about 87.04% of all cancer deaths.Conclusion The age -standardized incidence and mortality were higher than the national level.The common cancers in Henan were lung cancer,female breast cancer and digestive system cancers.The strategy of cancer prevention and control in Henan should be implemented based on the practical situation.
