Abstract：Objective：To study the therapeutic effectiveness of treating esophageal carcinoma with chemotherapy (using DDP, 5-Fu, DF) plus radi otherapy.Methods：127 esophageal carcinoma patients were divided into tw o groups at random, one was treated with radiotherapy (only-radiotherapy group, 62 patients),the other treated with chemotherapy plus radiotherapy using DF(co mbined group, 65 patients).Results：Complete remission rates of combined group and only-r adiotherapy group were 52.3% and 33.9% （P＜0.05) respectively;Survival rat es of 1,3,5 years were 73.3%,46.2%,27.7% and 58.1%(P＞0.05)，29.0%(P＜ 0.05)，9.7%(P＜0.05) respectively; Local recurrence rates were 23.1% and 4 1.9%(P＜0.05)； The distant metastasis rates were 7.7% and 21.0%(P＜0. 05).Conclusion：The therapeutic effectiveness had been raised by us ing chemotherapy plus radiotherapy to treat esophageal carcinoma
