Investigation on tympanic membrane and hearing loss in children with cleft palate

Abstract:Objective:To gain a clear idea of the middle ear function and hearing loss in children with cleft palate.Methods:Electro-otoscopy test was performed in 50 patients a nd 50 children without cleft palate.Pure tone threshold audiometry was studied in parts of them.Results:In 74 of patients the function of middle ear are abnormal and 58% ears are hearing loss. There was significant difference between cleft palate group and normal children group(P<0.01).Conclusion:Otoscopic and hearing examinations should be regula rity performed on children with cleft plate. The methods for the prevention and reduction of the serious hearing loss with cleft palat are suggested.
