A preliminary assesment on recombinant human growth hormone in the therapy of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy
Abstract:Objective:To assess the effect of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on left ventricular function in the treatment of patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM).Methods:13 IDCM patients were randomly divided into observatio ngroup and control group. All patients were received routine therapy.Seven patients with IDCM were studied at base line, after three months therapy each with rhG H (n=7,4.5 IU qod,im.).Routine therapy for heart failure was continued.Cardiac function was assessed with two-dimensional echocardiography, exercise capacity test and X-ray photograph. Results:The therapy with rhGH improved left ventricular systolic function, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) significantly increased from 35.6%±7.5% to 45.3%±5.1% (P<0.01),left ventricular end-systolic dimen sion decreased from 59.2±6.8 mm to 53.8±8.2 mm (P<0.01).Improved exercise ca pac ity duration time with significantly increased (P<0.05).Conclusion: rhGH administered for three months to patients with IDCM reduces LV end -systolic dimension and improved LV systolic function and exercise tolerance with no adverse events.
