A clinical study with transplantation of preserved human amnioticmembrane and limbal graft in treatment of severe ocular surface disorder
Abstract:Objective: To investigate and evaluate the applied value of preserved rved human amniotic membrane (PHAM) duringsurface reconstruction operation. Methods: Transplantation of PHAM combined with limbal epithelium of autograft or living-re-lated was performed on 48 cases 52 eyes with severe ocular surface disorder(OSD). Results: With the observation period of60-92 weeks,47 of 52 eyes were stable, and central corneas were clear without neovascularization, pseudopterygium invasion, and persistent surface defect.37 eye grafts were transparency or semi-transparency,and 311 eyes had been escaped blindness. Conclusion: The amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT)is not acted as a surface transplantation. The amniotic is acted as abasis membrane. To use a conjunctival limbal autorgraft or a living related, conjunctival limbal allograft provides for a source ofnew growth epithelial to reconstruction ocular surface for patient with severe OSD. The therapeutic effects of the method is avery valuable and the operative mechanic should be studied further. AMT seem to anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, regressionneovascularizations, promotes normal conjunctival epithelialization, failitates migration of epithelial cells.
