Abstract:Based on the products of boundary layer wind profile radar in Pingdingshan,Henan Prov-ince,the variation characteristics of the radar data during the pollution episode from December 17 to 28,2019 were analyzed.Using correlation analysis and regression analysis, typical physical parameters were identified as indicators for pollution monitoring and early warning. The results show that:(1)Pollutant concentrations increased rapidly under conditions of low horizontal wind speed and prevailing downdrafts. The persistence of pollution was facilitated by weak local circulation and low boundary layer height, which hindered pollutant dispersion.(2)Horizontal wind speed, vertical wind shear, boundary layer ventilation, and atmospheric stability variation exhibited significant temporal and spatial correlations with the Air Quality Index(AQI).Temporally, the strongest correlation was observed when these parameters led the pollution by 4 hours.Spatially, boundary layer ventilation flux was negatively correlated with AQI;within the boundary layer,lower-level variables including horizontal wind speed, vertical wind shear, and atmospheric stability variations were negatively correlated with AQI,while the correlations were positive in the upper levels above the boundary layer.(3)Regression analysis and validation dem-onstrated that the wind profile radar variables at 4 hours ahead of pollution occurrence provided the best prediction for AQI.Among these, horizontal wind speed, boundary layer ventilation, atmospheric stability variation, and vertical wind shear could serve as effective indicators for pollution monitoring and early warning.
