Abstract:Fog is a frequent weather phenomenon.Fog monitoring by remote sensing is one of the hot spots in recent years.Fog monitoring and early warning by multiple satellite data is of important significance for environmental protection and disaster evaluation.Cloud, fog and underlying surface have different spectral characteristics in visible and infrared channels.According to the data features of EOS MODIS and band setting of HJ-1 B,multi-channel threshold method was used to detect the fog in different stages in Jiangsu province on January 24,2013.For the fog in different growth stages, monitoring resuhs from satellite data were compared and examined with the ground observations. It is found that the overall accuracy of MODIS is 80.28%,and that of HJ-1B data is 91.04%.The two are both ideal, while HJ-1 B data can be a reliable data source for fog monitoring.
