Diagnostic Analysis of Heavy Rain Caused by Eastward Slow-moving Yellow River Cyclone
Abstract:Based on NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data and routine meteorological data, the heavy rain caused by Yellow River cyclone, which happened from June 28 to 29, 2001 in Henan province is ana- lyzed. The results show that the less moving of Yellow River cyclone is the direct reason of the heavy rain. Upper-level divergence and positive vorticity advection of middle layer play important roles in the formation and development of Yellow River cyclone. Water vapor of this process mainly comes from sea surface located on southeast of subtropical high, which comes from bay of Bengal has a certain contribution. Because of the symmetric instability of middle and low level over heavy rain area, ascending motion and water vapor transport are strengthened, which finally caused the change of precipitation.
