Analysis of Lightning Activity in a Severe Squall Line Process in Henan Using TRMM Satellite Data
Abstract:We chose three observed data by TRMM satellite in a squall line process, and analyzed the relationship between lightning and radar echo. The results showed that 81% of lightning was near the radar echo which was larger than 35 dBz in 7 km altitude. Most of lightning occurred in the convective precipitation area, which contributed 94%. Lightning flashes often occurred in the convective cells whose maximum radar reflectivity in 7 km altitude was larger than 35 dBz, and the lapse rate of maximum radar reflectivity between 6 km and 9 km altitude was lower than 15 dBz, which contributed 85.7%. The mid- value profile of the convective cell radar reflectivity has capability to reveal cell flash frequency.
