Preliminary Study on Dual Polarization Doppler Weather Radar in Lightning Detection
Abstract：Using S-band dual polarization Doppler weather radar,in conjunction with lightning detector data,the relation between dual polarization radar parametric characteristic and lightning of a thunderstorm example in Nanjing on 5th June 2009 was analyzed.We analyzed horizontal reflectivity factor ZH,radar differential reflectivity factor ZDR and correlation coefficient ρhv in 3 km,5 km and 7 km levels in the CAPPI chart.The results show that negative cloud-to-ground（CG） lightning falls concentrate on the strong echo center and its vicinity,few negative CG and positive CG lightning falls spread around on more than 20 dBz echo area,lightning initial stages is the small ZDR that below zero and large ρhv area.
