Abstract:The seedling growth and antioxidant enzyme activities in cucumber seedlings were analysed after laboratory simulation of co-treating seedlings with PS21 and 0,10,20,40,60,80,100 mg/kg tetracycline, respectively,in order to explore whether the composite photosynthetic bacterial inoculant PS21 could mitigate the inhibition of cucumber growth by various concentrations of tetracycline. The results showed that tetracycline treatment reduced the shoot height, root length, dry weight, fresh weight as well as the total chlorophyll content and increased the malondialdehyde(MDA) content significantly.Tetracycline treatment activated superoxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT),and peroxidase (POD) at low concentrations, while it decreased the activities of SOD,CAT and POD at high concentrations. At the concentration of 108 cfu/mL,PS21 could markedly relieve the toxicity of different concentrations of tetracycline to cucumber seedlings.Compared to the sole tetracycline treatment,PS21 could remarkably increase the shoot height, root length, dry weight, fresh weight, the total chlorophyll content and antioxidant enzyme activities, whereas it decreased MDA content of seedling leaves. These results demonstrated that PS21 alleviated tetracycline toxicity to cucumber plant significantly.
