Effects of Bole Cut in Different Basal Diameter Sizes on Branch Sprouting and Cutting Yields of Alnus nepalensis
Abstract:In order to understand effects of bole cut on related parameters of branch sprouting and cutting yield, single factor experiment of bole cut was implemented based on 5 clusters of basal diameters( BD;classed by hierarchical clustering) as the single variables for 3-year-old Alnus nepalensis saplings served as tested materials. The results showed that the first, second, effective branch numbers and cutting yield were 4. 1—9. 6, 1. 3—2. 3, 5. 5—11. 3 branches/sapling, 24—56 cuttings/sapling, which presented significant differences between the clusters ( P<0 . 01 ) . The cutting yield of the first branches accounted for 79. 9%—94. 6% of the total for 5 BD clusters, which indicated that the cuttings mainly from the first branches. The cuttings increased with the BD enlarged;it could significantly increased the cutting yield when bole cut was carried out for the BDs≥3. 00 cm. Therefore, cultivation of sound seedlings to improve the BD growth of A. nepalensis before bole cut was one of main approaches to increase the cutting yields.
